SpiceWorld Austin 2010 like the last two SpiceWorld’s was a HUGE hit there aren’t many pictures yet (Flickr) but I’m sure they are on the way, and hopefully we will get some cool after party pictures.

Even though the stream was “temperamental” to say the least when it worked most of the sessions where good and there was lots to be learnt.

Spiceworld 2010 has started! You can checkout the live streaming over on Spiceworks.com and Unofficial Spiceworks will be here trying to update you with notes, comments and any funny screenshots. If you want to interact checkout the IRC or the UStream Chat (suggest the IRC is much better).

Spiceworks’ SpiceWorld 2010 starts tomorrow where 300 SpiceHeads will descend upon the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

Unofficial Spiceworks can’t make it in person but will be following all the antics via the live stream, the IRC and twitter. The live broadcast starts at 9am CDT or 3pm GMT for us UK guys and can be viewed on Spiceworks.com here. Checkout the full stream schedule here.

With lots of great talks from various Spiceworks staff, partners and SpiceHeads its set to be bigger and better than last year.

And yes there will be Spiceworks 5.0 training!

Spiceworks 5.0 has just been released and includes some great new features. If you have followed our beta reviews you will probably know about all the cool new features. If you haven’t checkout the below for a quick over view of everything.

Purchasing

To help you manage your IT purchases better Spiceworks 5.0 has now brought in a new purchases management area. This allows you to track and manage everything you buy for clients or for your company depending on if you’re a MSP or a lone IT guy.

You can use it to track every aspect of a buy from picking the product to getting it delivered and then the man hours required to set it up. Of course like with everything in Spiceworks you can then use the powerful reporting system to give management or clients with details about what you brought for them and when.

People View

The people view is another great addition to Spiceworks which allows you to track your active directory users directly from within the dashboard as well as link them to devices, enable and disable accounts, checkout the user’s open tickets and edit basic account information.

You can setup departments and even photos for all your user’s to make it easier to find that person who you should know but can’t remember where they sit or what they look like. In the future we may even see this rolled out more so that you can allow human resources to view the information or pull out telephone lists from it to make things even easier for you, your team and your company.

jdorfman has recently found out that the guy behind The Website is Down maybe attending this years Spiceworks SpiceWorld.

Most IT Pro’s have watched the website is down’s videos and if the creator attends SpiceWorld it will be a great chance to ask him your questions about the site and or the videos.

Last year one of his videos made it to the grand opening so will be great to see him attend this year.

The Second Release Candidate build has recently been released with a few bug fixes including

• Remote Helpdesk – Some people were finding the remote helpdesk’s were dropping emails in certain situations, this has been fixed so the emails are no longer dropped.
• Server hanging’s – With central server and remote setups some installers were hanging while trying to send and receive the information, a quick code tidy up sorted this problem.

There also appears to have been an update to the people view which looks kind of cool:

We are expecting it to be fully released within a week. So it’s just the last touches Spiceworks are putting together as well as a few bug fixes in the background they aren’t shouting about…
