ObieOne has just posted an update for his Spiceworks Mobile Helpdesk
You can download the beta from http://www.4shared.com/file/137330396/73652565/MobileHelpdesk_20.html
The main improvement is the use of a login to help control and manage who can use and see the app.
The mobile helpdesk works on most mobile devices in which have a browser, Blackberries, iPhones, Windows Mobile and even Android. It allows you to update, change and view your helpdesk tickets on the go. No need to remember the tickets anywhere commands.
Check it out the Mobile Helpdesk over on the community http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/759
Focusing on the often-neglected information technology manager is paying off for Spiceworks Inc.
Founded by four former Motive Inc. executives, the Austin company set out four years ago to build software that would make life easier for the workers who oversee computer networks at small and medium-size businesses.
Before writing a line of code, Scott Abel, Jay Hallberg, Greg Kattawar and Francis Sullivan spent three months interviewing IT managers at 40 Austin companies to find out what drove them crazy about managing their systems.
The answer? Just about everything.
The bit that I though was interesting was:
Spiceworks user Justin Davison, a systems engineer and help-desk manager at material analysis company RJ Lee Group in Pittsburgh, is an example of how the company has won fans.
Davison tried Spiceworks last summer because he needed inventory management software and had nowhere near the $15,000 estimate he received from another company.
“Free was the right price for me,” he said. Read more
There are lots off really good quotes in this article its well worth a read.
Increasingly SpiceHeads refer to Spiceworks as the “Facebook of IT”: the place where they do their job and connect with other IT pros like them. To us, that is the ultimate validation of what we have been working on which we somewhat academically call a “social business application”. Social business apps have three ingredients (industry focus, a community, workflow tools & apps) and they weave these together in one seamless user experience. We use social apps (Facebook) to connect with friends; we use social business apps (Spiceworks) to do our jobs… with other people.
The weirdest things happen on the Spiceworks community, recently i was tickled by Kimberlin
Tickles andy to make him laugh and get in his blog
From tickling to riddles from Beattyc5
Here is a riddle though – let’s see how smart you are:
Your mom and dad came to you and said “hey Andy, we had a baby!” It’s not your brother, it’s not your sister – who is it?
All the way over to dirty feet from PaPa-Smurf
it will be like peppered hobbits feet
Even to Chris9132’s bad jokes
- She’s got no legs
whhhhttttttt taxi!!
The communities water cooler is full of randomness.
What’s the weirdest thing you have seen on the Spiceworks community?
This caught my eye on the community and thought it was worth sharing with the people who don’t keep up…
So, I installed Spiceworks this morning and am dead impressed. What part is it that I’m most keen on at the moment…
Is it the network audit? The fact it can do Linux machines too? Maybe the helpdesk? Of course not, it’s the Spicemeter, which I am now attempted to fill up.
God damn you Xbox 360 with your achievements, what have you made me become?
Ohh and as Martin9700 said “And once you have the Spicemeter up to 100% it’ll be time to start working on your Spice Level!! http://community.spiceworks.com/points”
Want to know what the SpiceMeter is? Checkout the help and support page on the Spiceworks community “What Is The SpiceMeter?”

Every site from now and then has to update / change / bug fix.
Spiceworks-New is no different and as you will have noticed we have just changed to a more “Spiceworks” feeling making things a bit more orange and also darkening the text to black so you can read it easier.
We have also done a couple of other bits and bobs to make the site run smoother…
You know I don’t know why I keep using we, its just me… akp982…
BUT!
I will say there are a lot of people around that give me ideas / content / secret information etc…
Hope everyone likes the new changes
