SpiceRex has become an even bigger hit and recently turned into the official Spiceworks’ mascot helping protect SpicHeads everywhere!

Forget birds. Forget planes. SpiceRex is a hero in a league all his own – who’ll spread the spice and have your IT back wherever he goes! A modern-day dinosaur (and scientific mystery!), SpiceRex is a fierce force to be reckoned with of epic proportions…which is only fitting if he’s gonna’ represent the mighty, one-million-strong IT pros of the Spiceworks Community, right?!

You can now see SpiceRex’s head sitting in the top left corner off the community guarding over everything IT.

Now that there are 1 million users behind Spiceworks and a T-Rex ready to pounce it’s “A Force To Be Reckoned With”!

SpiceRex finally got the 1,000,000 user, I wonder what will happen to him?

The Spiceworks 5.0 release group has been created and opened for business, there are some cool new Planned features.

1. Performance Performance Performance: We work on this in every release and this one is no different. We’re taking a couple of major steps in this release. We’re upgrading the underlying ruby infrastructure to version 9. We’re also improving the javascript to load things faster.
2. Virtualization: Support for Hyerp-V and basic management capability. Start/Stop VMs, etc.
3. SNMP v3 support. We can now scan devices using SNMPv3
4. Purchase List improvements. Capture concepts like ordered but not delivered and purchase price.
5. Network Map Improvements.
6. Remote Help Desk Sync. To support the MSP use case remote sites can accept tickets and sync with the central Spiceworks server.
7. Network Config Mgmt: Ability to snapshot configuration of routers and push config updates to supported devices.

There are apparently lots of exciting things planned for when they reach the big 1 million mark. Stay Tuned.

Lawrie5252 and his family including Nathan5116 recently got caught out by SpiceRex hitching a ride with the Park Ranger to get to the remote location of the Tree planting.

With more than 12 months of these Tree planting days there are still major areas at risk of long term loss of native vegetation, weed invasion, erosion and developing into semi-desert environments after the bushfires of February 2009, which claimed hundreds of lives and devastated large tracts of Australian National Parks. The wildlife which SpiceRex seems very concerned with have difficulty finding food and places to nest and hide.

Spiceworks Update 4.7.51538 is Now Available and includes some great new features including

• Check HP Warranty Status
• Bulk Delete Helpdesk Tickets
• Additional Language Pack Translation Keys
• Antivirus Detection for Sunbelt AV
• Software inventorying support for Oracle Enterprise Linux

The previous version of 4.7 already had the Dell Warranty Status built in.
